CJ Beatty Returns To Washington

Washington, PA-The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, announced that All-Star second baseman CJ Beatty resigned with the team for the 2014 season.

The 25-year-old Winston-Salem, North Carolina native is coming off his best season at the professional level.  In 2013, Beatty set personal career highs in home runs (18), which also led the Wild Things, doubles (26), runs scored (65), games played (96) and his 66 RBIs were the second highest of his career.

Beatty batted .305 for the Wild Things and started at second base in the 2013 All-Star Game at CONSOL Energy Park in Washington.

“CJ Beatty had a career year for the Wild Things in 2013. A true testament to the year he had was that he was runner up for the league MVP voting,” field manager Bart Zeller said. “He was a consistent offensive leader and a great leader for his teammates. We are excited to have him return in Washington.”

Additionally, the switch-hitter appeared in all 96 games for Washington and was easily the fan favorite amongst those entering the gates on a nightly basis.

At the end of the league’s regular season in September, Beatty was selected to the 2013 postseason All-Star squad, voted by Baseball America and Independent League managers.

A WILD NOTE: The Wild Things have also resigned pitcher Pat Butler, infielder Ryan Kresky and outfielder Scott Kalamar for the 2014 season.

The Wild Things will play their 2014 home opener against the Frontier Greys on May 20th at CONSOL Energy Park at 7:05 p.m. The team is accepting deposits for season ticket packages and group outings. Contact the ticketing department by calling 724-250-7412 or e-mailing

CJ Beatty Earns Baseball America Honor

Washington, PA- According to officials, Washington Wild Things second baseman CJ Beatty was named to Baseball America's All Independent All-Star Team. In 2013, the North Carolina native batted .305 for the Wild Things and led the team with 18 homeruns and 66 RBI. He also collected 26 doubles, three triples and played in all 96 games for Washington.

Wild Things players featured in Dick’s Sporting Goods

C.J. Beatty knew it was coming, knew he’d be a corporate presence.Yet, it still was a grand-slam moment.

Beatty, the Washington Wild Things’ all-star second baseman, recently strolled into Hanes Mall in his hometown, Winston-Salem, N.C., and continued into Dick’s Sporting Goods. That’s where he encountered, on box after box, C.J. Beatty.

“This blew off the top of my head. I couldn’t believe it,” Beatty said Thursday. “It’s every player’s dream to be part of something this big. Dick’s Sporting Goods is national.”

Actually, it’s 42 states, but why quibble? The experience is one wild thing.

Last season, Beatty and teammates Matt Phillips and Mike August were selected to be part of a Dick’s marketing campaign. Photos were taken of them at a workout in June, fielding, hitting and throwing at Consol Energy Park. The players were in blue practice jerseys with last names and numbers in white on the back and ‘W’ on the chest. (more…)
